Our Projects are aligned to the four governance pillars that we address. These are; Political Governance & Accountability, Economic Governance & Accountability, Extractive Governance and Transparency, Climate Change and Energy Justice.

Political Governance & Accountability Projects:
Electoral Democracy, Peace and Conflict- Amani Kwanza
Under this project we conduct short analytical studies on electoral democracy trends, identifying shortfalls in electoral democracy and drivers of electoral conflict in East and Africa Great Lakes Region. We organise public dialogues and high level engagements with key stakeholders and institutions promoting Free and Fair Electoral Democracy, Countering violence and conflicts in East and Africa Great Lakes Region. Some work under this project is implemented in collaboration with International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), the UN Office of the Special Envoy on the Great Lakes Region (UNOSEGL), the Institute of Social Policy Research of South Sudan (ISPR) and the Africa Great Lakes Civil Society Platform (AGLR)
Economic Governance & Fiscal Governance Projects:
1. Addressing Economic Policy Gap and Vulnerabilities : This project focuses on analysing economic policy gaps and economic vulnerablities in East Africa and Great Lakes Region. We conduct short policy studies and mapping of the EAC Regional Economic Outlooks every year. We engage and working with stakeholders and governments to address these policy, governance and systematic challenges.
2. Digital Economy and Financial Inclusion: This program focuses on supporting governments to expand the digital economy, leverage of monetary policy and regulation to harness the dividends of the digital economy, block chain and cryptocurrencies as vehicles to advance financial inclusion in the region.
3. Promoting Regional Economic Integration , Trade and Investment: Our project addresses; Elimination of Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) and Deepening of regional economic integration. Our Activities, Evidence Based Research, advocacy and training, High Level Stakeholders and Academia interactive dialogues, webinars and colloquiums. We deliver Capacity building for Civil society to engage with the EAC and AfCFTA on issues related to trade and regional economic cooperation. Track and Monitor Regional Economic Integration and provide technical Support to the EAC, EALA and East African Business Council on issues that affect regional trade and investment. This project is implemented in collaboration with the Africa Economic Diplomats Study Circle (AEDSC)
4. Taxation and Domestic Resource Mobilisation: We undertake and produce targeted analytical briefs and public dialogues on tax trends, DRM and assessments of fiscal policy reforms and contribute to suggestive recommendations on how EAC governments can increase their tax to GDP ratios and effective tax rates without imposing a burden and economic stress on citizens. Based on tax models, we further attempt to provide options that government can leverage to achieve a similar tax revenue outcome without excessive tax burdens.We conduct short studies and engagements on Taxation of the Digital Economy.Some of our previous partners in this work have included, the National Tax Payers Association Kenya and REPOA
5. Budget Analysis and Advocacy: We conduct analysis of national and regional budgets and engagements organise the public webinars with citizens to discuss the budget proposals, priorities and impacts on ordinary citizens. We engage the relevant stakeholders and government ministries to discusss proposals for improvement. Some of our previous partners in this work have included, the National Tax Payers Association Kenya and Policy Forum Budget Working Group.
Extractive Sector Governance and Transparency project:
Our projects focus on: 1. Promotion of Legal Reforms and Transparency. We support national policy and legislative reform processes and national transparency initiatives such as TEIT and the global transparency initiative the EITI to mitigate the negative harm of the mining sector. We provide analytical inputs and capacity building to support national civil society organisations to engage with stakeholders. 2. Promotion of Responsible Business Conduct in Mining: Promotion of sustainable and ethical mining governance frameworks and mitigation of harm caused by mining. 3. Minerals Certification and Chain of Custody: Strengthens and promotes regional minerals certification and chain of custody mechanisms such as the Kimberly Process and ICGLR, reducing illicit and conflict minerals proliferation. Our Activities in include conducting of Evidence Based Research and advocacy, High Level Stakeholders and Academia interactive dialogues, Support of ICGLR and UNOESGL initiatives to end mineral driven conflicts in East Africa and ICGLR Region.
Climate Change and Energy Justice: GEPC projects under this program addresses; Climate Change and Just Transitions, Clean and Renewable Energy Policy and Transition, Climate Change and Green Economy Taxation and Financing. This project seeks to increase understanding the role of clean energy in Africa’s energy mix. Our Activities include: Short Study researches and technical policy outputs, Public dialogues, webinars and colloquiums, Trainings on Sustainable Energy Policy, Regulation and Financing.We promote stakeholder dialogue on ontours of Climate Change and Just Transition, Scaling up of innovative policy, funding and projects to address extreme vulnerability to climate change .
Nature and Marine Governance projects:

1. Illicit Wild Life Trade (IWT)Projects include:
This project works to strengthen governance, community economic resilience and reduction of nature crimes. The high demand for Africa’s natural resources, weak and conflicting governance regimes and corruption are big enablers of Nature Crimes. East Africa and Tanzania is vulnerable and a conduit for nature crimes. Economic pressures, community beliefs and limited awareness are local drivers.
2. Blue Economy, Seaweed Farming and Illicit Fisheries Trade : Harmful fishing practices in Tanzania’s marine ecosystems affects local communities while Illegal fishing by large trawlers along Tanzania’s Swahili coastline displaces billions of US dollars in lost national revenue to Tanzania. This project works to combat illicit fishing and promote the blue economy and marine seaweed farming as blue economy along Tanzania’s swahili coastline. Work under this project is supported by the Resilience Fund. Our Activities include: Evidence Based Research and advocacy, High Level Stakeholders and Academia interactive dialogues, Support sustainable Wildlife, Marine, Tourism and Community Economic Resilience initiatives
Capacity Building, Training and Knowledge Development projects
We have leveraged our technical capacity and competencies to deliver flagship training and capacity building courses.
1. Sustainable Energy Policy, Financing and Regulation: Every year under this program we offer a flagship 8-13 Weeks Course on Sustainable Energy Policy, Regulation and Financing. This course is designed to equip public policymakers, civil society actors, private sector stakeholders, and financial institutions with the knowledge, skills, and tools to shape and implement sustainable energy policies, advance regulatory reforms, and unlock financing for a just and equitable green economy. A diverse faculty of experts drawn from GEPC technical ecosystem, global partners and experts, combining practical experience, policy insights, and technical expertise, facilitates it.
2. Critical Minerals Governance and Management Course:
Every year under this program, we offer a flagship on 8-13 Weeks Course on Critical Minerals Governance and Management. This course equips participants with strategic, governance, compliance and development skills and tools needed to manage critical minerals responsibly, ensuring these resources support sustainable extraction, industrialization and inclusive development. Participants further gain knowledge and understanding of the contemporary debates, the political economy, geopolitical risks and how to interact with different stakeholders, develop and manage the prerequisite regulatory landscape to drive investment into the sector in a just and sustainable development manner.
