Political governance is the process of exercising given political or administrative power to make decisions, formulate policy and govern. It determines how national resources are allocated and policy outcomes achieved
Political governance determines how states are organised , led and decisions over national resources are made and allocated to achieve a set of predetermined goals with in a given administrative system. This slightly differs from administrative governance which largely is the system of policy implementation and determines the quality outcomes of a given policy decision. The two are however key in shaping a country’s policy orientation, driving national cohesion and achieving a country’s development goals.
Tanzania is a democratic state with institutionalized political governance structures running from national to the local level. The government has a decentralized administrative structure and its citizens are encouraged to participate in the various decision and leadership spaces right from the local level. Despite this elaborate structure, some governance deficits such as knowledge and capacity gaps amongst various stakeholders and between the state and its citizens exits. This limit citizen participation and hinders the state to effectively deliver on its promise. The international political economy also affects Tanzania’s internal function on matters such elections and democratic participation, local governance, parliament and legislation. Tanzania is generally known for its relative stability in a region prone to conflict and instability. This persistent and spontaneous instability and conflicts have impetus Tanzania’s role in diplomacy and international relations. The country supported freedom and liberation movements across Africa and has been host to many freedom fighters, refugees , host to peace conferences and shuttle diplomacy in search for peace.
