Re-Positioning women and gender concerns in Critical Green Transition Minerals: Should Women be treated differently?
With the increasing focus on climate change and green transition minerals, multiple questions are asked whether women really matter and deserve to be treated differently. This brief aims to engage in furtherance of this discussion by repositioning women concerns in the current critical minerals’ agenda. It examines the existing challenges that women face in the sector and further sheds insights into whether the shift in global interest to critical minerals brings a unique set of risks for women in particular and how to navigate them. This brief suggests recommendations to enhance gender inclusiveness and empowerment of women in mining in as far as investment in critical minerals is concerned. We conclude with a note and call to policy makers that women have waited for so long and this time around, women should not
be left behind.
