Governance and Economic Policy Center is a think and do development policy entity interested  in economic governance, political governance, extractive governance, taxation, trade, investment and climate change.

The Governance and Economic Policy Centre (GEPC) is a fast-growing governance and development policy institution based in Tanzania but with a regional and Africa continental outlook. As an organization, GEPC envisages a society where every governance and economic action contributes to equitable and sustainable development.

We are looking for competent, dynamic and self propelled individuals to fill our different ranks as listed below

  1. Programs, Fundraising and Business Development Lead ( Hybrid and Offsite, Open to both local and international competent individuals)

The Programs, Fundraising and Business Development lead will be an integral part of GEPC’s senior leadership and management team at GEPC’s Hub. The person will help GEPC become a better-known brand, grow and develop its programing and financial resources and donor portfolio, required to deliver on its mandate.

He or she will be responsible for designing administering, and implementing of GEPC’s short term and long-term programs, resource mobilization and sustainability plans.

  • Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
    • Support the CEO and the management team in program designing and preparation of key documents such as Strategic Plans, Annual Plans, Results frame work and budgets
    • Play the M&E functions, tracking the results and impact of our work and ensuring that these are effectively communicated to our stakeholders and donor
    • Manage the Grants and financial resources received to ensure that they are implemented as per the agreed donor requirements
    • Reporting to our back donors and stakeholder constituency
    • Provide training to other team members on grant management and donor requirements

    Fundraising responsibilities

    • Resource Mapping of potential donors and new funding opportunities
    • Securing short term and long-term funding for GEPC
    • Developing GEPC’s sustainability and social enterprise investment plans
    • Maintaining and growing GEPC’s positive relationship with its donors
    • Develop and implement a 5-year business development/partnership/fundraising strategy, that includes resource mobilization by GEPC, blended financing, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, special events, institutional donors, philanthropic fundraising, tapping into government resources, and any other way to generate resources for GEPC.
    • Provide leadership on resource mobilization initiatives and alignment of our work to target specific donor funding.
    • Identify, organize, manage activities with a focus on new opportunities to obtain and maintain increased support from various sources such as corporations, public and private organizations, communities, individuals, the public in general.
    • Provide leadership for the establishment of a sustainability fund for GEPC which can be able to cater for GEPC’s future funding requirements
    • Support the external communications team and functions to ensure that GEPC as a brand is externally well known and fundable among donors
    • Establish short- and long-term goals for resource mobilization. Strategize and orchestrate methods of approach to institutional donors.
    • Research public and private funding sources (agencies, corporations and foundations, philanthropic funders) to identify realistic options for funding.
    • Research, develop, implement a grants calendar and funding pipeline.
    • Implement strategies for donor cultivation, solicitation, relations and acknowledgement.
    • Work closely with the GEPC Board (Development and Investment Committee once established) and the CEO to initiate and establish aggressive resource mobilization goals.
    • Work with program staff to develop funding related approaches and proposals.
    • Develop, implement an annual resource mobilization plan with strategies for donors and

    prospects in each constituent group.

    • Provide quarterly reports to CEO and Board measuring progress against targets.
    • Develop deliverables for pitching to prospective corporate partners and funders – from initial communication outlining potential collaborative efforts, to proposals elaborating our vision for engagements and detailed scopes of work/grant proposals.
    • Develop Annual and impromptu donor meetings, campaigns or creative strategies for engagement with prospective funders (including convening brainstorms, scoping sessions, etc.)

    Qualifications, personal attributes, skills and experience

    • At least a Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field
    • Energetic, self-motivated, result oriented person
    • Good communication and personal relations skills
    • Good report writing skills
    • Good program management skills, with familiarity of program design, log frames and result framework designs and budgeting
    • Good analytical skills and ability to apply context to given situation
    • Connection and network with donors or donor funding platforms
    • Prior experience in a similar role with a track record of raising at least USD 500,000 and above annually
    • Capacity to build and maintain a wide variety of relationships.
    • Capacity to self-start, be able to work independently with an entrepreneurial approach.
    • Ability to coach senior managers, Board members as spokespersons.
    • Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills, ability to complete time-sensitive tasks promptly and thoroughly, completing multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Preparedness to travel and work during weekends and evening hours as required.
    • Familiarity with campaign strategies.
    • Familiarity with human rights and development issues, non-profit sector.
    • Excellent research skills for corporations, donors and other partners.
    • Persuasive ability to work with Senior executive and Boards.
    • High energy, positive, “can–‐do” attitude, flexibility, high degree of creativity and initiative.
    • Ability to understand the required strategic development of the organization.
    • Strong partnership–‐building and event planning skills.
    • Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports.

    This is a hands-on role for a creative and energetic manager, responsible for generating a significant part of GEPC’s and annual financial turn over for the next 5 years.

    This role is open to both local and international candidates and will attract a remuneration commensurate with the volume of funding mobilized.

2. Job Position: Concierge, Protocol and Administration Assistant

DUTY STATION:  Dar es Salaam, Onsite

The Concierge, Protocol and Administration Assistant will be an integral part of GEPC’s core staff team at the GEPC’s Hub. The successful person be responsible for all our protocol needs, ensuring that our guests and clients are received and served with courtesy and the entire GEPC team (staff, directorate and colosseum members) are supported to effectively deliver on their duties. She will also cater for our general administration of the hub center, ensuring that GEPC achieves and maintains world class standards and our team has the top-notch environment to perform their functions.

He or she will be responsible for supporting GEPC’s logistics, finance administration and Human resource  management, administering, and implementing of GEPC’s policies.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • She will be responsible for all front desk office management, executive secretarial services and general management of GEPC Office Hub based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
  • Managing and maintaining GEPC’s external correspondence with our stakeholders, which will include, receiving and making official phone calls, dispatch and receiving mails and couriers
  • Support the Finance, Logistics and Administration team in managing logistics, finance administration and human resource roles
  • Support the senior management in administering and implementing of GEPC’s Administration policies.
  • Set up and manage GEPC’s document referencing, filing, archiving and library system.
  • Ensure GEPC compliance documents and requirements are submitted and update
  • Support in setting up of meetings and calendar diaries for the CEO, staff and the Directorate
  • Support in the coordination of our diverse team of staff, directorate and colosseum members spread across different nationalities and countries
  • Supporting in planning staff travels, itineraries, air, train and hotel booking for our staff, participants and guests
  • Support in planning and facilitating at GEPC events (webinars, public dialogues, colloquiums, trainings etc.)
  • Support the CEO and the program teams in program designing, preparation and filing of key documents such as Strategic Plans, Annual Plans, Results frame work and budgets and GEPC compliance documents
  • Support in the M&E functions by tracking the results and impact of our work in media, or opportunities for programing, funding and ensuring that this is effectively communicated to the CEO and respective staff for action
  • Support in management of office petty cash, Grants and financial resources received to ensure that they are implemented as per the agreed donor requirements
  • Support in reporting to our back donors and stakeholder constituency.
  • Participate and represent GEPC in external events

Personal attributes, qualification skills and experience

  • Aged 23 years and above
  • Possess at least a diploma in secretarial studies, international relations, HR, communications or any relevant qualifications.
  • At least 2-year experience in a similar role will be an added advantage
  • Well-groomed and natured, in appearance, self-presentation, etiquette and mannerism
  • Good interpersonal and intercultural relations skills, capable of working in a diverse cultural environment.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, result oriented person, willing to learn and apply new skills
  • Good office management skills, with familiarity with standard office protocols and applications
  • Good communication and personal relations skills,
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English and Kiswahili language

  • Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or post graduate qualifications from a recognized University or higher institution of learning in any of the following disciplines; Political science, Law, Development Economics, International Relations and Diplomacy,  Taxation, Trade and Investment, public policy, natural resource governance, development studies, climate change, energy policy , clean and renewable energy, peace and conflict studies, media and communication
  • Experience in conducting socio-economic research (desk or field)
  • Curious and eager to explore new frontiers , generate  and apply new knowledge
  • Agile and able to take up assignments or opportunity at short notice
  • Good communication skills and ability to package complex research data into a simple understandable language or formats
  • Good writing skills , with minimal editorial support
  • Confident and good public speaking and presentation skills
  • Have an astute mind, creative and self-motivated
  • Good interpersonal and intercultural  relations skills
